New Build front garden with secret driveway in Stoke Gifford
My client had a two car driveway but occasionally needed space for a third. Rather than extending the tarmac and losing the front garden, the design proves that something far more thoughtful was possible.
The design mirrors and supports the natural wildlife corridor opposite, helping this contemporary new build garden sit beautifully within its surroundings. At its centre is a discreet, ‘secret’ occasional parking space, integrated into a gravel garden with granite plank paving and planting pockets for colour and pollinator friendly interest.
A tall “hedge” of ornamental grasses and Verbena bonariensis adds softness, movement, privacy, and long lasting pollinator friendly flowers. The grasses are left standing over winter to provide structure and valuable habitat for overwintering insects.
Oak posts of varying heights mark the garden boundary and include bee posts, offering nesting sites for solitary bees.
This front garden now accommodates occasional parking while giving a warm, wildlife supporting welcome home — a space designed with care for both people and the wider environment will keep giving joy for years to come.
